Given the wide variety of spiritual practices, it can be difficult to define what exactly makes spirituality. Each person's definition of spirituality is unique. Others focus on nonreligious activities that enable them to connect with their spiritual selves, such as introspective time spent in outdoors, quiet prayer, yoga, or meditation. Traditionally, spirituality referred to a religious process of re-formation which "aims to recover the original shape of a person. Personal beliefs in a higher power or a feeling of connection to something bigger than oneself are common definitions of spirituality. It's possible that the terms religion and spirituality were once used hand in hand. They are not exact replicas, but neither are they polar opposites.
Lets Find out how to distinguish between spirituality and religion.
Religion is, by definition, a person's individual set of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices; it is also the service and worship of a supernatural being or creator of the universe.
On the other hand, spirituality suggests an experience with a connection to something greater than yourself; undertaking one's daily affairs in a grateful and sacred manner.
Religion is something which is taught, typically by a religious book or gurus, pastor, priest, moulana or any other person in a position of authority. You simply need to read, take in the information, and use it in your life; everything else has been laid out for you.
While spirituality is more of a personal practice and is concerned with finding meaning and peace, It also has to do with the process of creating beliefs without any predetermined spiritual principles about what life is all about and how we relate to one another.
Religion is a body of ideas and customs that have to do with a higher power or divine power. It frequently consists of a community of believers, an ethical code of conduct and a set of customs and rituals. Religion can offer a sense of community and support, and it can also help many people find meaning and purpose in their lives.
Being spiritual requires solitude. This implies that each person is traveling a unique spiritual path. Every life experience offers you the chance to either stray from or get closer to the truth of who you really are.
Spirituality and religion can both have positive and negative effects on a person's life, so it is impossible to say which is "better."Both spirituality and religion are related. One has a tendency to be more private and individualized, whereas the other has a tendency to include organized teachings and open rituals. They are all points on the spectrum of religious belief systems; the differences between them are not sharp and distinct. Religion and spirituality are not superior to or inferior to one another. But conflict and division can also come from both spirituality and religion. Conflicts between various religious or spiritual beliefs can result in intolerance and discrimination because some people may feel that their spiritual beliefs or religious practices are threatened or judged by others. In the end, an individual's needs, values, and beliefs determine what is best for them. While some people may find religion to be more meaningful, others may find spirituality to be the most fulfilling and important aspect of their lives. People should think about what gives them a sense of serenity, purpose, and connection to something greater and make decisions that are consistent with their own values and beliefs.
